Hobbies

I am new to the DC area, my husband moved here to get his Master in Laws at Georgetown. I have a dog whom I love. I am from Michigan, lived in Miami for 4 years. I am a professional but very caring and patient. I enjoy creating a comfortable and fun learning environment. My style of teaching is geared towards the age group. For instance, with children I like to employ worksheets and activities to encourage learning and keep interest. For adolescents and adults, I prefer conversation style learning with probing or open ended questions and, depending on the level of comprehension of the subject, I assign "homework" in the way of asking the student to research a particular subject and to be prepared to "thoughtfully discuss" the following session. Additionally, I create hypothetical problems or situations and allow students to use critical thinking to achieve the "answer." For grammar, writing and reading, I am well versed on grammar rules but also utilize a common sense approach. For instance, reading a sentence aloud, do you naturally pause (indicating a comma in writing)? My command of the English language, beyond being a native speaker, allows me to be an effective teacher. My husband speaks Spanish as a first language, so I often teach him, his friends and our family English lessons, off the cuff, which are very well received. I also love children and have a innate ability to connect with them, enabling me to be the best educator possible.
