Experience
I'm an autodidactic tutor who learned teaching from learning. I want to help others become learners and teachers as well. When I work with a student, I believe in focusing on their individual needs, strengths, and opinions, and motivations. When I know my students, I can adapt my approach to teach them the most effective way possible. I have a lot of techniques and tactics I can use to help students learn, but often it's a very simple thing, like a missed detail somewhere along the line, that is holding a student back from success. When I work with students to prepare for exams, I teach the material on the test primarily. Test taking skills can also help gain a few more points here and there, and students are welcome to seek out that extra edge, but for long-term learning these tricks will not take you far. I work with a student to understand where their knowledge gaps exist, and I will fill those in and build from there to get a student a solid foundation of understanding, which they can then use to apply their knowledge towards new understandings. I believe in effective and efficient learning, and I want to bring that to my students.
