Experience
I've worked as a GRE instructor for 7+ years, and I currently teach a class at American University, as an Adjunct Professor. I have also tutored at the Princeton Review, Varsity Tutors, and as a private instructor. I am experienced teaching all of the sections of the exam, and I'm happy to adapt to the student's needs in terms of what content to cover and the length and rigor of the course. The following is a more detailed description of my teaching background: Professor, Adjunct October 2016-Present American University Washington, DC •Teach GRE Math, Verbal, and Writing to students in a lecture format in a course lasting for a 6-8 week duration •Independently plan course curriculum using materials from ETS and Barron’s •Frequently assist students outside the classroom by grading essays and answering questions on homework and course content Private GRE and SAT Instructor: April 2013-present •Independently teach SAT and GRE prep one-on-one to students intent on improving their standardized test scores in the following areas: math (geometry, algebra, word problems, graphs, statistics, probability), reading (critically reading and analyzing short and long passages), and writing (structuring and writing essays, sentence grammar, and vocabulary) •Plan lessons individualized to cater to each student’s needs and abilities in the math, verbal, or written section of the test •Monitor students’ progress by grading essays, strategizing how to quickly and effectively solve problems, reviewing homework and practice test questions GRE and SAT Instructor at Princeton Review August 2010-April 2013 •Lectured SAT and GRE courses in a classroom environment by presenting lesson plans designed to enhance students’ performance in the math, verbal, and written portions of the exams •Taught classes of 2-12 students and advising students on an individual basis to assess practice test scores and improvement •Frequently assist students outside of class by grading essays, answering homework questions via e-mail, and meeting with students before and after class to assist with homework and gauge progress in course Teaching English as a Foreign Language: ECC Japan (Education-Communication for the Community) Nagoya, Japan January 2006-March 2007 •Independently tutored 4 levels of verbal and written English grammar and communication lessons to adults in groups of 1-4; independently taught kids (ages 2-18) English vocabulary and communication skills in an interactive environment in groups of 2-8 In addition to my tutoring work, I currently work as a researcher in Native American natural resource policy for a government consulting firm. Hobbies
I came to DC ten years ago as a jazz intern at the Smithsonian, and during grad school I worked at the National Archives, so naturally I enjoy exploring museums in the area. Also, like most people in DC, I love traveling. I’ve been to over 30 countries so far, and I recently visited Moscow and St. Petersburg.
