Private tutor in Atlanta, GA

Education

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. GPA: 4.0 Undergraduate Institution: The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Degree: Chemical Engineering Minor: Biochemistry GPA: 3.90

Experience

Rate: $50/hour, travel time included at 30/hr. No expenses for prep time. I have several years of one-on-one and group tutoring experience. During my undergraduate studies I was consistently employed as a private tutor while also holding a position as a study group facilitator for Biological Chemistry and Organic Chemistry II. As a facilitator, I created and provided supplemental materials, including worksheets and practice exams, for both individuals and groups. Now, while in the midst of my studies for a Bioengineering Ph.D. degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology, I have successfully completed two teaching assistantships for two Chemical Engineering courses: Kinetics and Reactor Design and a lab-based course for Process Controls where hands-on experience was used to teach college students about the course concepts. In both of these courses, I held several office hours each week and held weekly discussions in a full classroom of undergraduate engineers. Of note, one of the professors now uses my worksheets and my previous edits as the premier example for new graduate students. I have also tutored all courses that I have listed below as well as those subjects in specific preparation for tests (MCAT, GRE, GMAT, PAT, DAT, etc). I care not only about the grade obtained but in addition, I aim for my students to fully comprehend the topic in addition of solely being able to get the answer right. I tailor my teaching style to what works best for the individual student, and I ask for feedback if something does not work. I strive to balance a demanding, yet fun, learning experience while also being aware of the pressures school and grades can place on a student. Finding the right balance of motivation and encouragement is different for each student. Providing choices to the student demands active participation and helps the student feel more in control over their coursework allowing them to gain self-confidence. My goal every session is to find what sparks their motivation that day and help them become excited about learning so that studying no longer feels like a chore. I have worked in many different environments as a tutor, from quiet libraries to busy coffee shops and most recently in a virtual setting. I always make time for my students and usually provide my students with an email address and phone number to contact me with questions outside of our session that I will try and answer within 24 hours. My students' success is always my top priority!
