Education

I am a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh for both my graduate and undergraduate degrees. I was accepted into the CASE (Combined Accelerated Studies of Education) program, which is a rigorous dual early childhood education and special education teacher preparation program, earning a Bachelor of Science in Applied Developmental Psychology and a Master of Education in Instruction in Learning in a combined total of five years. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in April 2013, and retuned to Pitt two weeks later at the beginning of May to begin my graduate coursework. One year after receiving my first degree, earned a Master of Education in Instruction and Learning in April 2014, and retuned back to the Philadelphia area to begin my teaching career. DEGREES: Master of Education (M.Ed) in Instruction & Learning: 4/2014 University of Pittsburgh, School of Education (GPA: 3.9) Bachelors of Science (B.S) in Applied Developmental Psychology: 4/2013 University of Pittsburgh (GPA: 3.9)

Experience

I am a highly qualified, Pennsylvania certified General and Special Education Teacher with a Master’s degree, who has taught both in school districts and in charter schools. I currently hold PA teaching certifications in the following areas: Elementary Education (Grades PreK- 6), Mathematics Education (Grades 7-8), English Language Arts and Reading Education (Grades 7-8), Special Education (Grades PreK – 8). My certifications span a range of academic subjects, instructional methods, content area curriculum, etc. along a wide developmental continuum. Additionally, my M.Ed. in Instruction and Learning and my B.S. in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh have greatly influenced my teaching methods to reflect the science of how the brain learns. I have effectively taught students across all ages from Pre-Kindergarten to Ninth Grade. In addition to diverse ages, I also have experience teaching special and regular education students, ranging in ability level from children with multiple disabilities requiring ABA instruction to children who are gifted, requiring enrichment instruction that is multiple grade levels ahead. Through these experiences I have acquired a large collection of lessons and materials pertaining to a multitude to subjects on various levels. Particularly, I have extensive materials and specialize in improving student’s skills in the following areas: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Written Expression, Mathematics Computation/Operation, Mathematics Problem Solving, Pre-Algebra, Organization, Time Management & Task Completion. I find that I have an innate ability to differentiate instruction; I effectively identify and employ instructional methods that best educate students while simultaneously forming genuine relationships with them. I am able to do this because I begin the learning process by first getting to know the student for who they are as both a person and a learner so that I can meet them where they are at their current level. I then guide them to significant progress by drawing on their unique strengths and interests when implementing instructional methods that target their areas of weakness, which maximizes confidence, willful engagement, and enjoyment in their learning. I look forward to hearing from you soon! I have a highly successful track record with improving student’s skill levels in both overall performance (improving from a first grade reading level to a third grade reading level) as well as in specified target areas (achieving proficiency of 90% on seventh grade level computation and operation math probes). I am dedicated to facilitating success in each student through instructional strategies that are responsive to the each individual’s present level and learning style. PA TEACHING CERTIFICATIONS: 1.
