I work full-time as a statistician for NASA and am eager to engage you/your son/your daughter in the exciting world of math! Cheesy? Yes. But I do believe people shouldn't fear math the way they fear a root canal. With a master's degree in statistics and many years of tutoring experience at all levels -- from elementary school to working professionals, you'll be confident I have the expertise to help you succeed. I also bring a side of comedy and a personality that will keep you engaged... maybe not quite as effectively as The Handmaid's Tale, but pretty darn close. I often hear people complain that math/stats is too difficult or tell me I'm lucky I'm naturally good at math. No matter how smart you are, math requires dedication and patience. Sure, math can come more easily to some than others. But to excel at anything demands hard work. Maybe I'm old school, but in a world of instant gratification, I still believe practice makes perfect; there are no shortcuts. But I try to make it as painless as possible. I also specialize in English/writing/reading tutoring. I worked as a writing coach in college and have experience as a reporter and editor. I take the same approach to other subjects as I do to math -- commitment to excellence coupled with a pleasurable learning experience. Also can assist in test prep (including ACT/SAT/ISEE/HSPT/GMAT/GRE and general testing skills), study skills, communication skills, and general studies. I charge $60 per hour plus a variable travel fee if I come to you.
