Experience

Although I currently teach high school English and Special Education in Katy ISD, I started working with students when I was in high school. I tutored junior high students through my school's PALs program, a program I was elected to participate in by my peers. I also coached my neighborhood swim team and worked with children aged 4-18. I enjoyed working with kids and carried this with me to college, where I worked as a teacher for a local non-profit daycare. I began my career as a teacher when I was accepted in an alternative certification program called the New York City Teaching Fellows. This competitive program accepts less than 10% of applicants, and it allowed me to work as a teacher while I took graduate school classes at night. During this time I worked at the Academy for Young Writers in Brooklyn, NY, teaching English to both general education and special education students. I started and taught a Writer's Lab course that helped students to investigate different writing styles and techniques and helped prepare them for their state assessments. In addition to my roles as a teacher I also developed IEPs, managed the 11th grade teaching staff, and founded an after school music club. I am currently and English and Special Education teacher for 9th and 10th grade in Katy ISD. In this role I prepare students for their STAAR tests, modify curriculum for special education students, and teach in both large and small English classes.

Hobbies

My favorite time is when I am at home with my wife and two year old son. We enjoy going to local parks and festivals, especially ones with petting zoos! I also enjoy watching football (especially the Chicago Bears), working in my garden, and reading.
