Hobbies

I am a tutor because I love seeing that "now I get it" look of accomplishment in a student's eyes. Tutoring takes flexibility and creativity, executed with patience and positivity, and being the facilitator is such a rewarding role in that process. I have been helping others with their learning almost my entire life. I have six younger siblings and have always been the "good student," so working through math problems and patiently editing essays is second nature to me. I know how to be patient, because it can be frustrating to not understand something. I make sure my student never hits that point of panic. I like to keep it lighthearted, because learning should be fun. You can make almost any material genuinely interesting if you approach it right, and sparking that passion in the student can go miles. Above all, the foundation of supportive tutoring is encouragement, and consistently telling the student in different ways how well they are doing as they learn. I invite the student to personally engage with the material in a way that matches THEIR interests and personality, so it doesn't feel like we're doing work at all. Tutoring is not for "bad" students, and I make sure no student ever feels like they are being "punished" with tutoring. They are not getting help because they are "bad" at writing, they are getting help because they are smart and they want to do their best. Sometimes that takes help, and that just makes learning all the more fun. I love this process, and I love adapting my method to the student individually. Making sure the student feels liked, safe, supported, and confident is always step one on our way to success- a destination we will always reach, and reach together.
